Shanghai Tang in Ala Moana Center to Host Special Event in Support of Gregory House Programs and Acknowledge

World AIDS Day

Honolulu, October 13, 2008; Shanghai Tang located at Ala Moana Center is hosting a special early elegant event to support Gregory House Programs and its important work in the community and as a way to acknowledge World AIDS Day.  The event will take place Sunday, November 30, 2008 from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM with ten percent of all sales of Shanghai Tang merchandise going to Gregory House Programs.

In addition to this special event and as part of the collaboration and support of Gregory House Programs, Shanghai Tang will be donating ten percent of all proceeds from Saturday November 15, 2008 through Monday, December 1, 2008 (World AIDS Day) to Gregory House Programs.

Shanghai Tang owner, Scott Larson said “I wanted to do this to establish and fulfill a commitment to the Honolulu community.  Gregory House is successful in fulfilling its mission of caring and compassion to the community, and we want to help that success continue“

Shanghai Tang is the first and leading luxury lifestyle brand emerging from China.  Since its inception, Shanghai Tang has advanced the expression of modern Chinese Chic by fusing current design concepts with innovative Chinese-inspired elements.  Offering ready-to-wear for women and men, as well as accessories and home ware, Shanghai Tang supports an international network of 30 boutiques in the world’s most prestigious shopping districts.  The flagship stores reside in major shopping capitals such as Hong Kong, Shanghai, New York, Paris, and London.  The brand is currently controlled by Swiss luxury brand group Richemont, which also owns Cartier and Montblanc.

Shanghai Tang’s Honolulu boutique at the Ala Moana Center opened its doors in 2002.  As a partner store for the luxury brand, it is locally owned and operated by Scott Larson and Heidi Ingham who took ownership in late 2007.  As new business owners, Scott and Heidi bring much experience from the financial and retail industries to further develop the brand appeal in the local market.

“We are pleased to be supported by and working with Scott Larson of Shanghai Tang to support Gregory House Programs” stated David Andreoli, Gregory House Program Board President.  “This event is an important avenue to help the agency raise the funds needed to continue to support ongoing housing programs for the over 200 households we serve each month” said Andreoli.

“Housing is healthcare” stated Jonathon Berliner, executive director of Gregory House Programs.  “Without housing it is difficult to have any form of stability in life and maintain any form of physical and emotional well-being, especially when challenged with such a devastating disease as HIV and AIDS, and to have a wonderful business partner such as Shanghai Tang to support us and help us acknowledge World AIDS Day is very meaningful” stated Berliner.

Gregory House Programs, established in 1988, serves the most vulnerable, providing rent assistance, emergency rent, utility assistance, temporary shelter, and supportive services to persons with HIV/AIDS throughout the State of Hawaii.  The agency relies on funding support through private and public grants, donations and fundraisers.  Gregory House Programs can be reached at 592-9022.   Gregory House Programs office is located at 770 Kapiolani Blvd., Suite 503, Honolulu 96813.
